Every UK limited company must file statutory accounts with Companies House every year — typically within nine months of the company's year-end. The accounts include a balance sheet, a profit and loss statement, and supporting notes. A corporation tax return (CT600) must also be filed with HMRC, usually within twelve months of the year-end. Miss either deadline and the penalties start automatically.
For construction companies, the accounts need to reflect the reality of how the business operates — work in progress, retention, stage payments, plant and equipment, and vehicle fleets all need to be accounted for correctly. We prepare accounts that are not just compliant but also give you a genuine picture of where the business stands: what it owns, what it owes, and what it actually made.
We also make sure your accounts reconcile cleanly with your bookkeeping and your CT600. Nothing is more frustrating than accounts that do not match your records — it creates questions from Companies House, from HMRC, and from your bank or mortgage lender. We make sure everything ties together so that your accounts are a reliable document, not just a filing exercise.

Statutory accounts must be filed with Companies House within nine months of your company's year-end. The corporation tax return (CT600) must be filed with HMRC within twelve months of the year-end, and the tax itself must be paid within nine months and one day. We track all of these deadlines for you.
Companies House issues automatic late-filing penalties: £150 for up to one month late, £375 for one to three months, £750 for three to six months, and £1,500 for more than six months. A second late filing within two years doubles the penalties. We make sure your accounts are filed well before the deadline.
Statutory accounts include a balance sheet (assets, liabilities and equity), a profit and loss statement (income, expenses and profit), notes to the accounts, and for larger companies, a directors' report. Small companies can file abbreviated accounts. We prepare the full set and file with both Companies House and HMRC.
Yes. Your statutory accounts should reconcile exactly with your bookkeeping records and your CT600. Accounts that do not match create questions from Companies House, HMRC, banks and lenders. We reconcile everything so your accounts are a reliable, consistent document.
Yes. If you already do your own bookkeeping on Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent, we extract the figures, adjust for year-end items (depreciation, accruals, prepayments, WIP), prepare the statutory accounts, and file with Companies House and HMRC. We will also review your bookkeeping to make sure it is accurate before we start.
